Elf

Summary

Elves are Fae beings that are similar to Humans. All Elves have Elvish names, all Fae races have silver colored blood (similar in color and texture to mercury) and thus all Elves have silver colored blood, and all Elves have a maximum life span of 500 years.

Elves age quite differently from other races. For their first 4 years of life, they will develop at the same pace as a Human, but after that they will only age 1 year for every 6 years of life. For example, a 64 year old Elf is the equivalent of a 14 year old Human. While this slower aging process means they live long lives, it also means that they develop mentally at a much slower pace. This means that the 64 year old elf from the previous example, despite having lived much longer than their human equivalent, will still have the same mental structure and development as that 14 year old human.

Though it can be different depending on the household and Elven sub-species, generally, Elven children are not considered adults until they turn 70. But, it is generally also perfectly acceptable for an elf to stay with their parents until they turn 90. After that, they are expected to move out and start a life for themselves.

High Elf

High Elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

High elves have skin and eyes that are identical to humans.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears, but High elves have especially long, thin ears that point back.

Hair

High Elven hair is abnormally long, and High Elves will often grow it out so that it is long enough to touch their toes (this length is tradition, but not mandatory and some High Elves, especially those outside of High Elf cities, will ignore this tradition). As for color, High Elves can have either blonde, white, or grey hair.

Body

High Elves are born with very high metabolisms. As such, they have very slender bodies (i.e. there is no such thing as a fat or chubby High Elf).

High Elves are the tallest of the Elven subspecies and have an average height of 7’0” – 8’0” (…. pun intended)

History/Information

Popular Elven lore holds the belief that High Elves became their own subspecies when a group of Wood Elves, who were devout in their studies of magic, were blessed by the Goddess of Magic that they know as Kirke. This blessing made them more adept at magic, stretched their bodies to rise above the other elves, and thinned their stomachs so they could focus less on appearances and more on their magical studies. This of course is just a rumor as it has yet to ever be proven, but it is not impossible for evolutionary changes to occur as the result of magic, so the idea is not entirely preposterous. The High Elves are not only known for their magic, though, they are also known for their unique, lofty architecture.

Culture

Religion

High Elves worship the Goddess of Magic, but that is the most that is known about their religious practices; as it is forbidden for High Elves to speak about their worship. This is not to say that their worship is with evil intent; in fact, it is simply because they are the only race to worship this Goddess, and they feel that allowing the religion to spread would be an insult to their ‘true’ practices.

Family

High Elves have an average family unit of 3, as they are not very fertile and the average family usually has only 1 child if any.

Traditions

No religious traditions are known, but one cultural tradition that is known is called “Rista Loske” which literally translates to ‘to cut hair’. Rista Loske occurs on two occasions, when a couple marries and when a partner dies. High Elves take great pride in their silky, long hair, and members of both genders treat it as a way to attract a partner. When a High Elf does eventually marry, they treat it as eternally uniting with their soul mate; and because long hair is used to attract a partner, they will perform Riska Loska on their wedding day and cut their hair to shoulder length or shorter. The married couple will keep their hair short (hip length or shorter) for their entire life (as a symbol of marriage) as there is no divorce in High Elven culture. The other occasion when Riska Loska is performed, is when a partner dies. At the funeral, the spouse of the deceased will publicly shave their head, as a sign that they have lost their soul mate and will never love again. The widowed spouse will continue to keep their head shaved for the rest of their life. One unique exception to this is if the spouse died in battle. If this is the case, then the widowed spouse will not have to continuously shave their head because they will permanently scar it by having a family member meticulously cut a pattern of scars into their head over a period of three months. After this process is completed, the head will be brilliantly designed with these scars, and thus will be incapable of growing hair. If another High Elf sees a High Elf with these scars, they are culturally obligated to show their condolences. For example, if a male High Elf sees a widowed female High Elf, he will place the underside of his wrist to his forehead as a sign of his condolences. High Elves will do this at any time they see someone with these scars, even if it is in passing.

Fighting

Powers

High Elves have very powerful innate magical abilities, the nature of which depends on the individual.

Preferred Fighting Style

High Elves fight in a variety of ways, and preferred style is dependent upon the individual.

Weaknesses

High Elves are weak to mana draining attacks.

Meadow Elf

Meadow Elf.png

Physical Attributes

General

Meadow elves are the most agriculturally inclined of the Elven subspecies, and have adapted to better work in the fields.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears.

Body

Meadow Elves have the same physiological possibilities as humans do, but they are a bit shorter. Meadow Elves have an average height of 4’6” - 5’6”.

History/Information

Meadow Elves are often treated as the ‘hicks’ of the Elven subspecies due to their affinity with farming and their apparent lack of innate magical abilities. However, Meadow Elves are no less intelligent than any other Elven subspecies, and take much pride in their agricultural work. It is also clear where their origins lie; as, unlike High Elves, Meadow Elves are very open and accepting of sharing their simple culture. Meadow Elves are a branch off from Wood Elves, as with all other Elven subspecies, and were a group that simply did not cherish the daily hunt for food. Instead, they took advantage of their vast plant knowledge, and became one of the most agriculturally adept races on all of Annwn. In fact, their prowess with farming is so great that 20% of produce from across Annwn is produced in Meadow Elf villages. Though not widely known, researchers have found that the reason Meadow Elves seemingly do not have innate magical abilities is that their magic with plants reached a point that it simply became a part of them. Much like Sereia who no longer had to cast spells to get their land form, Meadow Elves evolved to no longer need to cast spells to have an effect on the plant life around them. This is likely why Meadow Elf villages are so agriculturally successful, but if asked about this, Meadow Elves are likely to be offended that the person is calling into question their agricultural skill.

Culture

Religion

Meadow Elves have no officially followed religion, as most of them do not have time to care about such “trivial wonderings” when there is real hard work to be done.

Family

The average Meadow Elf family unit is 10 people, as when a Meadow Elf reaches adulthood, they usually erect a home on their family farm; rather than moving away from the village.

Traditions

Meadow Elves hold a large celebration 2 weeks after harvest season. For the first week, preparations are made for preserving or selling the crop. The second week, however is completely dedicated to cooking, sewing, and making any other necessary preparations for the coming celebration. Once all the preparations have been made, they all dress up and have a large feast. The feast is typically ended with a bonfire and music that lasts long into the night.

Fighting

Powers

Meadow Elves naturally have an effect on the plant life around them. In most cases, this is an extremely positive effect, but in rare cases, it can be extremely negative. It is rarely spoken of, and even more rarely known, but when a Meadow Elf child is born with light grey eyes they will have a natural negative effect on plant life. This will cause all plants that they interact with to wither and die. In all known cases, the children "disappear" a few days after they open their eyes. Whether this means they were killed or sent away depends on the parents.

Preferred Fighting Style

Meadow Elves are very peaceful and it is unbelievably rare to see one that is in a confrontation, let alone one that is a warrior. But, if by some small chance a Meadow Elf were to be a warrior, they would likely be a roguish-type of fighter as their small stature and muscled build would make them easy hiders but powerful strikers.

Weaknesses

Meadow Elves are weak to distance attacks.

Wood Elf

Wood Elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Wood Elves are the original Elven race from which most subspecies branched off from.

Skin

Wood Elves typically have the same skin colors as Humans, but very rarely a Wood Elf can be born with any color skin. Wood Elf skin is much thicker than Human and other Elven subspecies’ skin. It is not quite as thick as an Orc’s, but it certainly comes close.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears.

Eyes

Wood Elves can have any eye color.

Hair

Wood Elves have very long hair that is similar to that of a High Elf’s, but is slightly shorter, as it can only reach to the knees. Wood Elf hair is also slightly coarser and thicker than a High Elf’s. Wood Elves can have any hair color.

Body

Wood Elves are slightly taller than Humans at an average height of 5’10” – 6’10”

Wood Elves have the same weight possibilities as Humans.

History/Information

Wood Elves are the ones that almost all other Elven subspecies evolved from.

Wood Elves often regarded as the most ‘savage’ of the Elven subspecies as their villages and cities remain in the trees of dense forests. Despite advancements and ability to produce agricultural products, Wood Elves also continue to rely solely on gathering, hunting, and trading. But, despite these negative views, Wood Elves choose to remain in a ‘savage’ lifestyle in order to maintain their deep connection with nature.

Culture

Religion

There are two main religions in Wood Elf culture. The first, and most popular of the two, is the worship of the Goddess of Fae, Kaelia. The other is the worship of the Goddess of Earth which they call Gaia. The Kaelia worshipers argue that her existence is the one worthy of worship as it was she that created them. On the other hand, Gaia worshipers argue that it is Gaia that gives them the nature for which they build their lives. Both are peaceful religions, but that does not stop the growing tensions between the two sides.

Family

The average Wood Elf family unit is 4 people.

Traditions

Two main Wood Elf traditions exist, one for each religion.

For the worshipers of Gaia, there is a tradition that is never broken, where at the end of each month, a ceremony is held called “Entula” (literally meaning ‘to return’). During this ceremony, the Wood Elves will apologize for all they have taken from Gaia during the month by each individual Wood Elf pouring half of their mana into the village’s sacred tree in order to give back a bit of what they have taken.

As for the worshipers of Kaelia, there is a yearly fertility holiday, called Thaesoli (literally meaning ‘fertile’) that is held in honor of Kaelia. Since Kaelia ‘gave birth’ to the Elves, the Wood Elves celebrate and honor this by blessing the stomachs of newly wed brides in order to aide in conception. Babies that are born as a result of this holiday, will bear a name made of some combination of the letters in Thaesoli such as Toli, Hosil, Etsol, and etc.

Fighting

Powers

Wood Elves are innately adept at nature and shamanistic magic.

Preferred Fighting Style

Wood Elves are raised as hunters, so when fighting, they usually prefer to fight from a distance or by using traps.

Weaknesses

Wood Elves are weak to fire magic.

Desert Elf

Desert Elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Desert Elves are an Elven subspecies that settled in the deserts of Anfauglir Ardhon.

Skin

Desert Elf skin ranges in color from tan to black, and its thickness is not quite as much as a Wood Elf’s, but it does come close due to being weathered for generations by the harsh desert sun.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears, but Desert Elves have slightly longer ears that point up and slightly outward. Desert Elves also have a habit of piercing their ears to wear many chain ornaments.

Eyes

Desert Elves can have yellow, brown, blue, or purple eyes.

Hair

Desert Elves have very thick, usually curly, hair that can be brown, black, or blonde in color.

Body

Desert Elves have the same weight and height possibilities as humans.

History/Information

Desert Elves evolved from Wood Elves as they settled in the deserts of Anfauglir Ardhon.

Desert Elves, like Meadow Elves, have a very simple culture built around their village life. But, they are not nearly as peaceful as Meadow Elves, as they also have a thriving warrior culture. For generations, Desert Elf tribes have been at war over each tribe’s domesticated animals and farming produce; as having both in the harsh deserts is extremely difficult.

Culture

Religion

Desert Elves worship the God of death who they know as Osiris. They worship this God because of the harsh reality of the desert, which means that death can occur at any moment. So, they worship this God as a way of accepting their fate, and thanking the God for keeping them alive. Due to their deep connection with this God, whenever a Desert Elf is about to die, a dark black spot will appear on their forehead, letting them know that they should cherish what little time they have left.

Desert Elves used to worship the Ekek, who they mistook for Gods thousands of years ago. But, they realized that they were not Gods about 1,000 years ago.

Family

The average Desert Elf family unit is 4 people.

Traditions

Desert Elves have two notable traditions.

The first is known as “Re En’I’Ba” (literally translating to Day of the Dead). On this holiday, Desert Elves hold a festival at night which will start with the slaughtering of a few of their animals or prisoners of war. They will then drain the bodies of blood, and the Desert Elves will use the blood to decorate themselves; putting intricate designs all over their bodies. Then, they will take what is left of the blood and splatter it at the foot of every doorstep to protect themselves for what will happen at the end of the festival. After this, they will hold a great feast and celebrate late into the night. After the feast has concluded, they will take a Desert Elf that has been marked for death, and tie them to a post in the middle of the village. Those that receive the mark of death, view this as the best way to die so the victim will sit quietly at the base of the post and wait. Then, everyone in the village will retire to their homes and sleep through the rest of the night. While they are asleep, a spirit sent by Osiris will come to village and take the soul of the Desert Elf tied to the pole, and in return will not take any other souls (even if they are marked for death) that are in the homes that have been marked with blood.

The second tradition is called “I’Thysolaelaer” which literally translates to ‘The Forgiveness’. This is less of a holiday, but more a traditional practice where once a year, all of the tribes will come together (regardless of any grudges), and make peace for one night to eat a meal together. Anyone that partakes in any kind of violence or verbal argument during this meal will be executed on sight. After the meal is over, the tribe leaders exchange gifts and the visiting tribes return home peacefully.

Fighting

Powers

Desert Elves have magical abilities dependent upon the individual.

Preferred Fighting Style

Desert Elves usually prefer melee combat, using their hunting and war spears that are decorated with pieces of the body (typically small bones or strands of hair) from each being that has died at the point of its blade.

Weaknesses

Desert Elves are weak to extreme cold.

Sun Elf

Sun Elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Sun Elves tend to be the most arrogant and lacking in intelligence of all of the Elven subspecies.

Skin

Sun Elves have tan to black skin that is not harmed by fire or any amount of sun or heat. White skin is possible, but it is very rare and is seen as a curse from the Sun Goddess (they feel that darker skin shows that they truly absorb and accept the Sun’s rays).

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears. Sun Elves have long ears that are as long as a High Elf’s but that stick straight out to the sides and slightly up.

Eyes

Sun Elves can only have varying forms of the colors yellow or blue.

Hair

Sun Elves all have golden blonde hair. A Sun Elf is very rarely born with different colored hair, but when they are, they are usually killed so as to prevent their ‘contaminated’ genes from ‘infecting’ future generations of Sun Elves.

Body

Sun Elves have the same height and weight possibilities as Humans.

History/Information

Sun Elves are considered the most arrogant and least intelligent of all of the Elven subspecies, and while a few individual Sun Elves break this mold, it is unfortunately very common for a Sun Elf to live up to this reputation. Sun Elves are a people that build glass buildings, have no sense of the need for privacy, and while they are not a necessarily peaceful people they have never gotten into a battle or war because most people take any harsh words that they say purely at face value due to their habit of making idle threats.

Culture

Religion

The Sun Elves worship the Sun Goddess that they know as Etain. This religion is everything to the Sun Elves, and often they talk about it so much that people often get annoyed by them. But, that does not stop them as they believe that the more they talk about Etain, the more she will favor them.

Family

The average Sun Elf family unit is 3 people.

Traditions

Sun Elves have many traditions related to their religion, including biweekly masses, yearly animal sacrifices, and much more. But, one holiday in particular stands out the most. The holiday is known as “Anar'Re” which literally translates to “Sun's Day”. During this holiday, the Sun Elves will go lay out in the sun for a full week during which they will not eat but they are allowed to drink water. They do this to “absorb the Sun’s beauty”, and if anyone talks or seems like they are not truly absorbing the Sun’s beauty during this week, all of their livestock will be slaughtered as punishment.

Fighting

Powers

Sun Elves have innate Fire magic abilities.

Preferred Fighting Style

Sun Elves prefer to fight melee where they will wrap their weapons in a layer of fire magic to add extra damage.

Weaknesses

Sun Elves are weak to water magic.

Dark Elf

dark elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Dark Elves are a subspecies of Elf that are nocturnal.

Skin

Dark Elf skin color ranges from light grey to black.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears, but Dark Elves can have any type of pointed ears. The type they have is based on genetics.

Eyes

Dark Elves can have any eye color but the most common is red.

Hair

Dark Elves can have any hair color/type, but white and black are the most common.

Body

Dark Elves have the same weight and height possibilities as Humans.

History/Information

Dark Elves are a very intelligent, nocturnal Elven subspecies that evolved away from Wood Elves as they further embraced the skill of hunting at night under the cover of dark. These Elves live in dark areas such as caves and underground cities as heat and sunlight gives them piercing migraines. Throughout many generations, Dark Elven civilizations have not gone to war themselves, but many Dark Elves are often hired as assassins, scouts, and sometimes even body guards.

Culture

Religion

Dark Elven societies do not have one particular religion that is more popular than any other one among them.

Family

The average Dark Elf family unit is 2 people, as children leave home as soon as they turn 15, and Dark Elves have a 30% chance of being infertile.

Traditions

Dark Elves do not have many traditions, but every Dark Elf child is taught the art of intelligence gathering and assassin skills in order to continue to benefit the community with the jobs that come from being hired as scouts and assassins.

Fighting

Powers

Dark Elves have magic abilities that are dependent upon the individual.

Preferred Fighting Style

Dark Elves tend to have Rogue-ish fighting styles.

Weaknesses

Dark Elves are weak to extreme heat.

Moon Elf

Moon Elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Moon Elves are an Elven subspecies that, like the Dark Elves, are nocturnal.

Skin

Moon Elf skin is very pale, almost translucent, and while most are very white, darker colors are possible, but are usually odd looking as the skin tends to look more like glass the darker the skin is.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears, but Moon Elves have ears that are as long as a High Elf’s, but they stick straight out to the side and slightly down, and the top lobe bends over halfway down the ear.

Eyes

Moon Elves can have any eye color, but the most common is blue.

Hair

Moon Elves can have either white, grey/silver, or blue hair, and its length usually reaches past the waist.

Body

Moon Elves have the same height as humans, but as for weight, they tend to be much more lean.

History/Information

Moon Elves actually are a branch off of Dark Elves, unlike the other types of Elves. It is said that they evolved away from Dark Elves when the Moon Goddess, who they know as Mahina, blessed them for their worship of her. Along with their beautiful pale complexion and hair, she is also said to have blessed them with powerful water magic abilities. As a society, Moon Elves, like Meadow Elves, are a very peaceful people, and will avoid fighting at all costs, as they believe that fighting will upset their mother moon.

Culture

Religion

Moon Elves, like Sun Elves, take their religion very seriously, but they do not shove it in people’s faces like Sun Elves do. Instead, they believe that those that are worthy will be drawn to Mahina, rather than simply convinced of her existence.

Family

Moon Elves view everyone in their village as family, so all members of a Moon Elf village sleep under the same roof.

Traditions

Moon Elves only have one established tradition. This tradition has no name, but every month the Moon Elves hold a religious ceremony under the full moon. No one is sure what happens at the ceremony as they tend to be very secretive about it.

Fighting

Powers

Moon Elves have innate water magic abilities.

Preferred Fighting Style

Preferred fighting style varies depending upon the individual.

Weaknesses

Moon Elves are weak to daylight, as it gives them horrible migraines.

Mountain Elf

Mountain Elf.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Mountain Elves are an Elven subspecies, and are the only Elven subspecies that Dwarves get along with.

Skin

Mountain Elves have skin that ranges from light grey to black.

Ears

All Fae races have pointed ears, but mountain Elves have surprisingly small ears, even smaller than Human ears.

Eyes

Mountain elves have black eyes(irises only/still have eye whites) (no exceptions).

Hair

           Mountain Elves are completely hairless.

Body

Mountain Elves have the same weight possibilities as Humans, but their average height is 2’0” – 3’0”.

History/Information

Mountain Elves are an Elven subspecies that retired to the mountains after they discovered the vast resources of them. Mountain Elves are often mistaken for Gnomes, and they have mining abilities and strength that could rival a Dwarf’s. As for cultural History/Information, Mountain Elves piggybacked off the Dwarves for their culture, so everything that is a part of Dwaven culture, including family, religion, and traditions are a part of Mountain Elf culture.

Fighting

Powers

Mountain Elves have innate earth magic abilities.

Preferred Fighting Style

Mountain Elves usually prefer to fight melee.
