Lamia

Summary

Lamias are a race of half-human half-snake reptilian humanoids. Lamias have the lower body of a snake and the upper body of a Human (including Human ears). The following applies to all Lamias:

  • They have long, snake-like tongues and slightly more prominent canine teeth (they can be long enough to go just below their lower lip or short enough that the extra length is barely noticeable). Some Lamias have a venomous bite depending on the type of snake of their lower half.

  • Their snake lower half can be anywhere from 3’0” – 20’0” long.

  • Only about 20% of Lamias are born with snake-like pupils, but it is possible.

  • Only 10% of Lamias are born with anywhere from 4-6 arms. This trait is considered a blessing from the gods in many Lamia families.

  • Lamias don’t find it obscene to be without clothes on their lower half because nothing inappropriate is visible.

  • All Lamias usually have Hindi names; here are some references to use: https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/hindi-names.php  https://www.behindthename.com/names/usage/hindi

Original Lamia

Physical Attributes

General

Lamias have the same skin, eyes, and hair possibilities as Humans (for their upper body). Lamias have the same lower body possibilities as snakes.

Age

Lamias have a maximum lifespan of 200 years.

History/Information

Lamias are originally from the grasslands of ocean islands of the island chain country known as Ekosca. Many often speculate that they are the result of an ages old curse, but this of course is not true, as they are actually the descendants of a now extinct race of reptilian humanoids that evolved out of their legs and into snake tails. Lamias can have the lower body of any snake; making them the most diverse out of the Lamia subspecies. They also have incredible powers, as they are not only very strong, but they also have the ability to control snakes. This means that Lamias usually surround themselves with the creatures; so much so, that a few hundred years ago, a rumor was spread that there was a new subspecies of Lamia that had snakes for hair. This was obviously disproven, but there are a few people out there that still believe it anyway. Lamias, typically, are social recluses; and while they would surely make formidable warriors, most are simply not involved enough in other people, let alone cities or countries, to be able to want to fight for them.

Culture

Religion

Lamias typically worship the God of Animalistic Humanoids, who they know as Enten. But, given the fact that Normal Lamias are so reclusive, even with their own kind, many tend to believe in a variety of Gods/Goddesses.

Family

Lamia family units are a bit strange. The average family unit is 4 people, but there are two groups that make up this statistic. One group is the majority, and it consists of secluded Lamias that live alone. The other group is made of parents and children, and given that Lamias give birth to a minimum of 5 eggs, these families are usually quite large.

Traditions

Lamias have no particular traditions other than keeping children in the home until they turn 40 years old, at which time they are considered young adults.

Fighting

Powers

Lamias can control snakes, but any other magical abilities depend upon the individual.

Preferred Fighting Style

            Lamias typically prefer melee combat.

Weaknesses

Lamias are weak to charm curses.

Sky Lamia

Physical Attributes

General

Sky Lamias are similar to normal Lamias, but they can fly.

Skin

Sky Lamias have the same skin color possibilities as Humans, but Sky Lamias have incredibly thick skin.

Eyes

Sky Lamias can have any eye color, and their eyes have a protective film over them to allow them to fly at high speeds without having to wear protective gear. This film also surprisingly improves their eyesight, making it possible for them to see fine details up to a mile away. The film also means that they never blink, which often disturbs people that interact with them.

Hair

Sky Lamias have longer hair than Humans, but have the same hair color possibilities as Humans.

Body

Sky Lamias have the same bodies as normal Lamias, but their snake lower halves can be any color and have either feathers or fur running along the back. Sky Lamias also have horns, which many people see as a sign that Sky Lamias are descendants of dragons; but that is simply not true as Sky Lamias have no dragon ancestors.

Age

Sky Lamias have a maximum lifespan of 1000 years.

History/Information

Sky Lamias evolved from normal Lamias due to a food shortage a few thousand years ago. In order to escape this, a group of Lamias moved to the floating islands of Ekosca and eventually adapted magic that allowed them to be able to fly. Sky Lamias are an incredibly lighthearted race that has almost no established culture thanks to their nomadic tendencies.

Water Lamias have gills on their necks.

Age

Water Lamias have a maximum lifespan of 100 years.

History/Information

Water Lamias also evolved from normal Lamias after the food shortage.

Water Lamias are a very tribal people that have a deep-rooted warrior culture. Water Lamias are often mistaken as Merfolk, but in reality, they have a long lived feud with the Merfolk, as Merfolk pushed Water Lamias a bit too hard to try to modernize them. In the end, the Water Lamias killed hundreds of Merfolk, and the two races have been in a state of semi-permanent war ever since. The other big difference between Water Lamias and Merfolk is that Water Lamias can’t survive out of water for more than an hour, or else they will dry up and die.

Culture

Religion

Unlike the normal Lamias, Water Lamias passionately worship Enten (the God of Animalistic Humanoids), and any Water Lamia that shows neglect or disdain toward their religious duties is sacrificed to the God.

Family

Water Lamias have very large families, with an average family unit of 12 people. This is as a result of the minimum number of eggs per birth being 8.

Traditions

Water Lamias have many traditions, all of which are customs. One of these customs is that Water Lamias are forbidden to travel outside a group of 5 or more. Another custom is that any Merfolk that is seen outside of a Merfolk city is to be slaughtered on sight. One last custom is that Water Lamias are forbidden to leave the tribe. If a Water Lamia is heard speaking about leaving the tribe, they are to be slaughtered on sight.

Fighting

Powers

Water Lamias can control currents, but only enough to make small changes such as guiding a school of fish towards the tribe. Any other magical abilities are dependent upon the individual.

Preferred Fighting Style

Water Lamias prefer to fight melee using either a trident or their tribe’s crested saber.

Weaknesses

Water Lamias can’t go on land for more than an hour or they will die.

Ice Lamia

Ice Lamia.jpg

Physical Attributes

General

Ice Lamias are similar to normal Lamias, but they are immune to the cold.

Skin

Ice Lamias can have light blue or pure white skin. Ice Lamias also have patches of ice that grow from their skin.

Eyes

Ice Lamias can have white, blue, or black eyes. Ice Lamias also have no eye whites, so the entire eye is made of the iris; except for the pupils.

Hair

Ice Lamias can have only white hair.

Body

Ice Lamias can have white, light blue, or grey scales on their lower body. Ice Lamias also have much longer canine teeth that are similar to a saber tooth tiger’s; as they reach past the bottom of the chin.

Age

Ice Lamias have a maximum lifespan of 500 years.

History/Information

Ice Lamias, unlike the other variants, did not leave because of the food shortage; but rather because, at one point, there was a sudden rise in Lamias born that could use ice magic. The Lamias were treated as outcasts, so they all eventually left to the snow plains of Hielon. From there, they further evolved to live in the frigid conditions.

Culture

Religion

Ice Lamias have no established religion, as they deeply believe in the freedom of an individual to worship any deity.

Family

Ice Lamias have an average family unit of 2 people. This is because Ice Lamias are only capable of having one egg during their entire lifetime.

Traditions

Ice Lamias are very wary of outsiders, so many of their traditions involve preventing outsiders. One such tradition forbids any trade between an Ice Lamia and an outsider. Another tradition bans Ice Lamias from even speaking to outsiders. Lastly, another tradition is that if an Ice Lamia breaks the two traditions listed above, that they will be banished from the tribe. This is an especially low blow, as Ice Lamias value family above all else.

Fighting

Powers

Ice Lamias have innate ice magic abilities.

Preferred Fighting Style

            Ice Lamias prefer distance fighting.

Weaknesses

Ice Lamias are weak to fire magic.
